Message from the Plant Manager

fredharryAdvanSix’s Hopewell facility is one of the world’s largest single-site producers of caprolactam, the primary feedstock in the production of nylon, as well as ammonium sulfate fertilizer.

The nylon produced by Hopewell’s caprolactam is an essential component of high-demand products used by people around the world, including carpet, clothing, rubber, engineered plastics, films and industrial filament. Producing caprolactam is a complex undertaking, and the capabilities of this plant are unmatched in our industry. Customers have been coming to us for more than 55 years because of our efficiency, consistent high-quality products and cost-competitiveness.

The plant is Virginia’s second largest exporter, shipping caprolactam to China and other Asian countries, and fertilizer to Latin America. We also ship caprolactam to another AdvanSix facility in nearby Chesterfield, Va., where it is processed into nylon resin and sold to customers around the world.

We take our responsibility to run our plant safely at all times very seriously, and we invest continuously in ways to make our plant safe. Since 2006, Honeywell had invested more than $25 million on projects that directly support health, safety and the environment. In addition, AdvanSix recently began a six-year, $66 million environmental control project that will improve the site’s leak detection and emissions systems, which will reduce NOx emissions from the site by roughly 80 percent annually.

As part of AdvanSix’s overall commitment to safety, we operate under the principles of the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® program. This program is the foundation of health, safety and environmental excellence in our industry. Responsible Care fosters cooperation among chemical industry companies to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.

AdvanSix is active in the Hopewell community. The company participates in a number of local business organizations and provides financial and other support to our area first responders, teachers and environmental organizations.

For more than 80 years, the Hopewell facility has been an important supplier of quality products that bring benefits to people around the globe. Our employees are proud of this facility and its commitment to our customers and our community. I am proud to lead this site and look forward to providing you with information about our commitment to safety, serving our customers and providing good jobs in the community.
